Redefining the simplicity of synthetic sound design in their sonic laboratories, Alpha Boy from Berlin and J.-F. Conrad re-interprete the spirit and aesthetics of the eighties under the condition of contemporary production suites. Rhythmic clarity, a confession to melody and a real playing of, rather than just programming the synthesizer are specific for the moods of the tracks. Alpha Boy is well-known in the scene for his reductionistic melodies and synthesizer arrangements, which find their counterparts in the surrealistic artwork of his album covers. Jan-Friedrich Conrad has been very successful as a composer for audio plays which are extremely popular in the german-language-based market. His music can be heard on a variety of compact cassettes and CD-releases which made platinums and a plethora of golden records. For his title melody of the Three-Investigator´s-Theme he was awarded gold. He´s a true synthesizer maniac with a collection of analog and digital hardware synthesizers, guitars and basses arranged on „Simplicity Lab“.
The album artwork has been done by Josep Prat Sorolla from Barcelona, Spain. Surrealism is an evident influence in much of his pieces, like Dalí or Magritte, but he´s merging it with the style of retro-futurists’ compositions of a large amount of artists in the 80s. The bright colours and the combination of patterns and textures are common resources in his creations, bringing his work close to pop iconology. www.sepedesign.tumblr.com
